Murtaza Hassan, also known as Mastana, was a Pakistani stage actor, comedian, theater director, and playwright from Gujranwala, Punjab, who later moved to Bahawalpur, Punjab.[1]
His real name was Murtaza Hassan, and he was born in Gujranwala, Pakistan, in 1954 (age 56–57).[2]
He got married in 1992 and has a son, Hafiz Muhammad Saad Hassan.[3] His father name was Ghulam Mustafa. He had a brother, Javed Akhtar, and a sister, Shaheen.
Career
Mastana began his acting career in the 1970s at the Gujranwala Theatre. ‘Visa Passport’ was his debut stage drama in Lahore, performed at Bagh-i-Jinnah’s Open Air Theatre. He was a student of the late television actor Fakhari Ahmed.[4]
His on-stage pair with comedian Tariq Teddy and Babu Baral was quite popular.
He quit the theater in 2005, following an incident at Naz Theatre in which a police officer slapped Mastana in public amid a crackdown on inappropriate dances in stage performances. The experience left the sensitive artist discouraged.[5]
After leaving the theater in 2005, He moved to Bahawalpur, Punjab.

Mastana Death
Mastana was a hepatitis C patient. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition on March 20, 2011, when his liver stopped functioning. He died on April 11, 2011, at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur. He was thought to be between 56 and 57 years old when he died. [6]
