Early Life and Struggles

As a child, Hamid Rangeela sold boiled eggs on the streets to earn money. Later, he worked as a welder.

He earned around 350 rupees per day welding, while also selling gol gappay with his father. Life was hard, but he remained determined.

Meanwhile, his Taya (elder paternal uncle) worked as a stage drama producer, which would later influence Hamid’s future.

One day, Hamid’s cousin Rayaz asked him to pick him up from a rehearsal at a stage drama venue.

While there, Rayaz gave Hamid 350 rupees and promised him a chance to perform in an upcoming stage show.

Hamid arrived on the show day dressed in a butcher costume, eagerly waiting backstage. But unfortunately, he was not included.

This rejection deeply upset Hamid. He immediately went to his friend Irshad Kamal and shared the whole experience.

First Stage Show: “Phar Lo Phar Lo Kukri Chor”

Frustrated but motivated, Hamid and Irshad decided to produce their own stage show. They quickly wrote a 10-page script.

They took inspiration from Amanullah Khan, “Bakra Qiston Pay,” “World Cup” dramas, and Jan Rambo from PTV’s “Guest House.”

The show was titled “Phar Lo Phar Lo Kukri Chor.” Actor Sajjad Jani also auditioned for a role in the show.

To promote the show, Hamid and Irshad distributed pamphlets around Faisalabad. Their cousin Rayaz later helped with logistics and support.

They booked MC High School in Faisalabad as the venue. The performance was scheduled for Eid day, adding excitement and pressure.

On the day of the show, the donkey cart vendor refused to work, so Hamid set up 500 chairs himself.

Tickets were priced at 10 rupees each, making the event accessible to the local audience.

To their surprise, 2,000 to 3,000 people showed up. The crowd loved it, and the show was an instant success.

Following this, Hamid and his team occasionally staged more shows, gradually building their name in local theatre.

Assault During First Commercial Drama
