Personal life
Afreen Khan and Adeel Bhatti, First marriage and Divorce
According to Afreen, Adeel Safdar Bhatti came to watch her stage drama and fell in love with her, and they got married. They were living happily until her mother died in January 2020. After her mother’s death, Adeel insisted she come to Rawalpindi, where he lived.
Then Afreen shifted from Lahore to Rawalpindi with his family and lived there. One day, they had an argument, after which he took her to his home and locked her in a room for 25 days, where he abused her and forced her to leave her brother, drink alcohol, and leave theatre.
After 25 days of torture, she agreed to leave her brother but insisted on working in theatre, to which he agreed. Then they went for stage shows in Gujranwala, where they again had arguments multiple times after stage shows; he even threatened her.
Afreen got scared, and when Adeel was sleeping, she left his home, took her family, and came back to Lahore. After that, Adeel called her and apologised for everything, and they had a patch-up during COVID-19.
During COVID-19, all theatres were closed, and they lived happily. When theatres opened and she started working again, he told her to continue theatre but only in Rawalpindi. One day she came back from theatre, and he deceived her and her family into taking them to a birthday party, but he took them to his home and started beating all of them, including his own daughter.
Then Adeel Bhatti’s mother, Shagufta Naz, came and saved them and gave divorce papers to Afreen and Adeel, which they signed. Then the next day they left, but Adeel was still in contact with her and told her to stay in touch or else he would kill her.
Then she took refuge and appealed for justice from the Punjab government in a video. In 2020, her divorce decree was issued by District Court Lahore.
